Description

The City Hall, Vienna, Austria
The Digital Land plot next to the City Hall. It is one of the most splendid among the numerous monumental buildings along Vienna. The City Hall was built in neo-gothical style, with a tower similar to gothic cathedrals in the end of the 19th century. Friedrich von Schmidt, who had been the architect of the Cathedral of Cologne, designed Vienna's City Hall. The height of the tower reaches 97.9 m, plus the figure of the so-called "Iron Rathausmann", which protects the city. Cast from melted-down Russian kopecks, he is 5.4 metres tall and weighs 650 kilograms.
Today the City Hall is the head office of Vienna's municipal administration. More than 2000 people work in the building. Numerous visitors are stunned by the magnificent interiors of the rooms. Various events and concerts are held inside and in front of City Hall. One of the most important and best known is without doubt the Life Ball, which is held every year in May. Starting in November, the Christmas Market in front of City Hall creates the right atmosphere in the run-up to Christmas. And from January to March, City Hall Square and City Hall Park transform into the most beautiful skating rink in the world.
