Description

Pedro IV Square (Rossio), Lisbon, Portugal
The Digital Land plot at the Pedro IV Square. This square with grand fountains and a wave-patterned mosaic pavement has been one of the city’s main plazas for centuries. So locals and foreigner continue to call it the usual old name of Rossio.
The square was founded during the 13 century and has seen fairs and bull fights, popular revolts and royal proclamations, parades and public executions during the era of the Inquisitions. Now Rossio is the most popular gathering place and people meet at one of the many benches or at the pedestal of the central monument.
In the centre of the plaza, on a 23 metre-high pedestal, stands a bronze statue of Pedro IV, King of Portugal and first Emperor of Brazil. On the North and South of the statue you will see lots of people taking pictures to the unique baroque fountains.
The Rossio Train Station is also located in this square, dominating the Pedro IV Square with its unusual neo-Manueline facade. The trains to popular tourist destination Sintra depart from this train station.
Lisbon revolves around Rossio, it is here that the students come to sing, workers to protest and tourists to drink coffee. The square and its surrounding streets are packed with the city’s most famous restaurants, bars and shops.
