Merlion Park, Singapore
The Digital Land plot on the area of the Merlion Park. The Park is one of the major tourist attractions in city and home to mythical beast, Merlion. Located in the business district of the city, the Merlion Park covers an area of almost 2,500 square meters. Visitors to Merlion Park will have a fantastic view of Marina Bay Sands across the water.
The Merlion with the head of a lion and the body of a fish is the symbol of Singapore. It’s said that the fish’s body of the Merlion represents Singapore’s humble beginnings as a small fishing village at the southern tip of the Malaysian Peninsula. The Lion’s head is derived from the country’s original name, Singapura, which means Lion City in Malay.
There are two Merlion statues in this park. The first you can find near the waterfront at Marina Bay. The original sculpture at 8.7 meters tall and weighing 70 tonnes has a fountain of water spurting out into the picturesque Marina Bay. The park also houses a smaller Merlion statue. Known as the ‘Merlion cub’, it stands at 2 metres tall and weighs three tonnes.
The Merlion Park can be visited at any time of the day, although the best time is when Singapore dresses up at night. It includes several cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, and onsite restrooms. There is a small pier where water taxis stop. It is an interesting option to con-template Singapore from another angle.
